Asking the hand of the love of your life for marriage is one of the most meaningful events of a person’s life. This could potentially be the moment that initiates a lifetime’s worth of happiness.
There are millions of ways to propose to your better half, from the classic ring baked into a cake or getting down on a knee on a beach during a warm sunset. But, finding the one that works best for you and your partner can be highly taxing.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment, so you want it to be romantic, thoughtful, and unique. However, this process won’t be that stressful or cost you a kidney if you pay to peek into our ideas. I hope you get a yes! 😉
1. Plan an intimate proposal
If you and your partner are private people, a low-key, intimate yet straightforward proposal might be the best option. You can get prints of photos of the two of you, including the most landmark moments of your relationship.
Choose a room in your house and hang the images all over it. Or, tie a velvet ribbon from one end of your home to the other, and place small photographs and love notes every few feet. Be there at the end of the ribbon with your ring and your proposal. Be there at the end of the ribbon with your ring and your proposal.
For some bonus points, add some music you both listen to while sharing an earphone. To add an extra touch, make a unique puzzle for your proposal. Once you’ve finished it, it should be written, “will you marry me?”
If you’re planning to do something simpler, take your date to the location of your first date. It doesn’t matter if it’s a restaurant or a coffee shop. Order the same thing you did on your first date, and share your favorite memory from your first date. You can finish the job with the old ring-baked-into-the-cake trick.
2. Make it a spectacle!
If both of you are into grand gestures, don’t worry, we have you covered. Attend any concert, such as live music or an orchestra, depending on your taste. We recommend choosing an artist or a band with a special place in both of your playlists.
Try coordinating with the venue to see if you can propose on stage or by contacting the artist’s entourage to see if they can pause the concert to make an announcement. In case your budget is on the higher end you can even take things a step further by asking the artist to do a private show for both of you.
Don’t forget to buy a diamond or a sapphire engagement ring for your beau – it’s going to be for a lifetime, so make sure you choose something evergreen!
3. Go outdoors
Even though there are numerous places to propose, being outside adds an element of awe. Mother Nature provides numerous romantic settings that are tailor-made for love stories. If you both enjoy the feeling of conquering a mountain, make it even more special by planning a proposal for your next hiking trip. The mixture of breathtaking sceneries and endorphins will provide an unforgettable experience.
Plan a small rendezvous at a quiet beach if your significant other prefers beaches over mountains. Write “will you marry me?” on a tiny piece of paper and put it in an old bottle or a seashell. Place it somewhere the two of you will walk by, and your partner will surely notice it and pick it up. This is an excellent option if you want your proposal to be a complete surprise.
For something more straightforward, plan an outdoor picnic in a lovely setting for your proposal. Hide the ring in a picnic basket or a glass of champagne.
4. Bring some art!
Art and love are the same things. And, there is no bigger gesture of love than to make a piece of art for the love of your life. To have your significant other write and sing a song for you to propose might be the most romantic thing ever.
You can write a book narrating your shared experiences. There are numerous online resources available to assist you in binding and printing a DIY book.
Write down how you met, with a happy ending that teases the next chapter of your lives together. You can also make your love story trailer out of home videos, then take your beloved cinephile to a local theater that has agreed to show it.
Over to you…
If you follow any of these ways, the chances of you getting a yes are very high. However, a lot depends on the dynamics between the partners. We’re confident that you’ll do a fantastic job as long as you consider your partner’s choices and go above and beyond to plan a memorable proposal. Keep in mind that these are only suggestions, it is up to you to personalize them.
